Lucio Silla
Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Libretto by Giovanni de Gamerra
Sung in Italian with projected English translations
Mozart’s early masterpiece pits a devoted husband and wife against the passion and political cunning of a Roman dictator. Can love and determination defeat the might of Rome? Based on a historical Roman dictator, this opera depicts the pride, machinations, and eventual transformation of a flawed leader. Written when Mozart was sixteen, Lucio Silla displays all the emotional depth and musical mastery its composer is known for.
“in the end it was all about the music, which was extraordinarily demanding and gloriously sung.”
